NMHNA Alliance
The inaugural American Men’s Health Nursing Alliance, co-founded by Dr. Julian L. Gallegos from Purdue University and Dr. Curry Bordelon from the University of Alabama-Birmingham, addresses the critical gaps in men’s health through dedicated nursing practice, research, and advocacy. Supported by AAMN, the AMHNA aims to promote men’s health and work with the American Nurses Association to establish men’s health as a designated specialty within nursing.
The AMHNA seeks to develop standards and competencies essential for specialized men’s health nursing, encompassing physiological, psychological, and social aspects. This initiative ensures nurses are well-prepared to address men’s health issues comprehensively. By designating men’s health as a specialty, the AMHNA aims to elevate the status of men’s health, secure increased funding for research, and implement targeted public health initiatives. This recognition offers nurses a pathway for professional growth and specialization, ultimately improving health outcomes and reducing disparities for men.
The AMHNA is poised to transform the landscape of men’s health, setting new standards for nursing practice and benefiting men and their families nationwide.
