American Assembly of Men in Nursing
AAMN Mentor Program

Welcome to the American Assembly for Men in Nursing Mentoring Program

What is the Mentoring Program?
The philosophy of the Program is based on the premises that:

"The American Assembly for Men in Nursing (AAMN) Mentor Program promotes the personal and professional achievements of men in nursing through formal and informal collegial relationships while advancing the practice and science of nursing."

This is a pilot program for up to 20 Mentor-Mentee Pairs for the first year, so, get your application in early. There will be no charge to the participants. Each participant will be provided with printed and electronic resources that will assist them as they develop their mentor-mentee relationship. In addition, all mentors will be expected to complete a brief orientation to being a mentor for the AAMN Mentoring Program.

The structure of this program is adapted from and informed by the work of Lois Zachary, author of "The Mentor's Guide". The brief readings and exercises that both you and your mentee will be completing in each of the 4 phases of the program come from Dr. Zachary's work. The full reference for her text is Zachary, L. (2000). "The Mentor's Guide: Facilitating effective learning relationships". San Francisco, CA: Jossey-Bass. (ISBN 0-7879-4742-3).

In addition to the readings and exercises presented in the AAMN Mentoring Program, the AAMN will also be providing you with a booklet by Linda Phillip-Jones from The Mentoring Group titled "The Mentor's Guide". that will help facilitate your experience as a Mentor.

Below, please find the link to both the Mentor and Mentee Application form. Once it has completed, submitted to the Mentorship Task Force for review, and you have been selected to participate in the AAMN Mentorship program, you will be given instructions as to how to access the materials on the web site. We thank you for your interest in the program and look forward to providing this service to the AAMN Membership.
